Community Engagement

Repairing the damage and harm done to ourselves and our planet will take bravery, patience, imagination and lots of love and understanding.
Using practices and processes that have been proved to work might help.
This is one for a start;
Restorative Justice
And then…
Transformative Justice
And the some words from people who have helped me lose my way in order to find new ways…
here, hear, he are, she are, more than just he or she, we all are…
hear for now.

My aims here

I am imagining working with a group of people using a core story about how we might live in collective, collaborative, nonviolent communities.

Keen to use and abuse the methods of the theatre of the oppressed.
First developed by Augusto Boal in the 1950’s and can be useful in bringing forwards solutions to current struggles through the telling and retelling of the way things are and the ways they could be if we all worked together beyond judgement and hierarchies.

Once we have a small group together and a space to work in, I would like to film the process and the people and tell our stories as they emerge.
At some point we might choose to perform our stories and how we found them, though I am not fixed on that.
I feel that via the facilitated process of coming together, sharing our lived experience and telling our stories, we will move towards creating communities seeking system change and designing practical ways to bring this about in nonviolent ways.

I have spoken to several people who are curious and want to get involved, if you are a film maker, or would like to be, if you are creative interested in producing new outcomes and perspectives, bring whatever you wish and we will make efforts to weave that into what we are doing here… equally if you feel you could get tangled up in sharing your story by telling it… singing it… painting it…, dancing it… let me know and we will work with that.
I have no idea where any or all of this might go… I know where I would like it go, and am willing to invest whatever energy I have in creating something that lives long after we have finished building it.
This is a place where communities can be born and grow and become models for others to follow… maybe… maybe it’s just going to be a manic, chill, fun gig and we get to meet a few new people we want to collaborate with?

The values I find valuable

Love, life, connection.
Beauty in nature and in human kindness.
Nonviolence and transformative justice.
I value patience, humility, radgieness, being alone, being with others.
I value being.

The yellow text below links to a story I am in the process of writing.
As I write this there are twenty two chapters here and I will add chapters as I go.
I have more chapters to write and add, and guess the whole story will run to around sixty chapters.
This story has been fermenting in me for ages and it needs to be freed in order for me to move towards completing it.
It is a work in process, feel free to pick it up and shake it and rewrite it, chop it up and randomise it.
Meanwhile, check it out so far…
The falling apart. The coming home.
